                   UNPROTECTING LOTUS 123 VERSION 1A*

There seems to be plenty of patches around for unprotecting Version 1A of
Lotus 123, but I never could find one that would work on Version 1A*.
Necessity being the mother of invention, I have come up with a patch that
will eliminate the need for the 1A* System Disk in Drive A; and you won't
have to use one of those memory-resident RAM-eaters that messes up your
format command either.  If you don't know whether you have 1A*, the best
way to tell is simply to execute 123 and look at the opening screen.  If
you don't see the "*" under the 1A, you have the earlier version.  As
usual, you should only work with a COPY of 123.exe file.  Here's how you
unprotect:

Now you're ready to go.  I have intended this unprotect as a convenience
for legal, registered owners of Lotus 123.  Please don't use it to rip off
those who have worked hard to put this fine product on the market.
